Sunday School Ministry

Elder William Mckinney, President
Every Church, no matter how large or small, wants an effective
Sunday Church School . In order to reach this goal, the local
church must put forth every effort that is needed to promote and
encourage Church Education. The Sunday School is the primary force
that carries out the spiritual education program of the church as
set forth by the pastor, deacons, and trustees of the local
church.
Many factors are essential to build an effective Sunday School.
One primary factor is the appointment of a dedicated and qualified
Superintendent. When selecting a Superintendent the person should
be strong mentally, physically, and spiritually because of the
influence he/she will have on the spiritual development of the
school staff and students. The Sunday School is the "Church at
Study".
The Superintendent has a major responsibility in the selection
of spiritual educators and providing training for them to support
the edification of the church body. With an effective
Superintendent and teaching staff the local church aids in
developing the spiritual growth of the members. The church should
emphasize the importance of attending Sunday School for the growth
and edification of the church body.

What are the objectives/goals of the
Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God?
(taken from "The Foreword", by Bishop WT Phillips, Church
Manual)
- The attainment of a favorable or desired outcome; achievement
of an objective/goal
- To teach and live the life of holiness just as Jesus commands
us in The Holy Scriptures to follow in His footsteps
- To teach the church doctrine giving proof by books, chapters,
and verses in the Bible
- To teach the one true way to obtain salvation
- To enlighten its people and to be a blessing to every nation on
earth
- To deepen the spiritual lives of its members so that they may
attain to the highest state of Christian experiences and worship
God in the true sense of holiness
- To educate and train youth so as to put them in touch with the
Creator
- To make the youth fit for service
- To provide spiritual values, higher morals, and industrious
education to youth, and adults
It is essential to conduct regular evaluations to determine
areas and directions for improvement. We must work with our teams
to address identified areas of improvement and unify our
direction.
"Compare where we are as a school, with
where we should be as a school"
Feedback on progress is a necessity…
- Evaluations speak to the planning process
- Evaluations speak to the learning process
This important tool is used to determine if Jesus Christ is
pleased with our service…"Are the AOH Church of God
objectives/goals being pursued?"
2Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own
selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in
you, except ye be reprobates?
Work toward team building among district church leaders…
- team of pastors
- team of Sunday school Superintendents
- team of Sunday school teachers
What is a Team?
A small number of
people with complementary
skills who are committed to a common
purpose and who are working
interdependently to achieve specific performance
goals using an approach for which
they hold themselves accountable.
1) We are labors
together with Jesus
1Corinthians 1:10
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing,
and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly
joined together in the same mind and in the same
judgment.
1Corinthians 3:9
For we are labourers together with
God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
2) We
should all work under the direction/guidance of the Holy Ghost-
Having the Holy Ghost is essential to teaching Holiness.
St. John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of
truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not
speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he
speak: and he will shew you things to come.
1Corinthians 2:13
Which things also we speak, not in
the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost
teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
3) We are
committed to accomplishing the objectives/goals set forth for the
AOH Church of God
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5
When thou vowest a vow unto God,
defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that
which thou hast vowed.
Better is it that thou
shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not
pay.
Psalms 37:5
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust
also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
4) We
educate to progress the student from observation of scripture
to application of
scripture…"I must see a relationship between what is written in
scripture to what I am living"…,
Romans 6:16
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield
yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey;
whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto
righteousness?
Galatians 6:7-8
Be not deceived; God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
For he that soweth to his
flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the
Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
5) We
emphasize being prepared for the righteous judgment of Jesus
Christ….
Psalms 9:7-8
But the LORD shall endure forever:
he hath prepared his throne for judgment.
And he shall judge the world
in righteousness; he shall minister judgment to the people in
uprightness.
Ecclesiastes 12:14
For God shall bring every work into
judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether
it be evil.
Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men
once to die, but after this the judgment:
We Educate by:
- Modeling the desired Behavior
- Providing sound, consistent doctrine
- Coordinating speech with action
- Observing and Commenting on Progress
